Wind energy is the fastest growing source of electricity in Texas, with the federal government expecting it to grow nearly 50 percent between 2017 and 2020.

The Department of Energy reported that the wind industry in Texas added 3 gigawatts of wind generating capacity since the beginning of 2018 and plans to add another 7 gigawatts before the end of next year. One gigawatt provides enough power for about 700,000 homes.

The Energy Department predicts that wind energy will supply 20 percent of total power generation in Texas this year and 24 percent in 2020.
