BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4) – Hundreds of new jobs are up for grabs in Colorado as Vestas Wind Systems is looking for new employees.

Vestas says it needs 350 new workers immediately to work at both the company’s blade building factories in Windsor and in Brighton.

With orders up across North America, Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas says it’s having trouble keeping up. The company needs more blade builders at two of its four Colorado plants.

“If we are to send more components then we need more people,” said Hans Jespersen, Vestas factory manager.

Jespersen is looking for people who want to work with their hands.

“In our world it’s all about the people here building plates,” he said. “They create the value for us and that’s something we appreciate.”

To increase capacity crews are also building 100,000 square feet of new production space. An analyst for the Boulder-based research firm Navigant says while the hirings are a good sign, the industry’s health is still tied to politics and “has to expand and contract in cycles in response to our federal Congress that either passes or doesn’t pass temporary tax credits that support wind energy.”

Despite that uncertainty Jespersen says the new jobs are meant to be long term positions for people who want to be part of a team.

“That’s a quality we look for people that can repeat processes, understand drawings, follow instructions, and if we can find that then we have a good match,” Jespersen said.

They are hiring now, taking applications every day, but job seekers can also attend upcoming job fairs. One will be in Brighton on Aug. 15 and the other in Windsor on Aug. 22.
