Stick to infrastructure

Sen. Roy Blunt thinks the infrastructure package is too loaded, and said Congress would have a better time passing it if it stuck solely to infrastructure in the strictest sense. Speaking with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Blunt even called it an “easy win” for the Biden administration if they just take out all the bits that he said aren’t relevant to the country’s crumbling roads, bridges and the like.

“Obviously Democrats have figured out that infrastructure is something we need and something that’s popular,” Blunt said, “and so they’re trying to take 70 percent of this bill and call it infrastructure in a new way than we’ve ever talked about infrastructure before — and that means you’re looking at another partisan package just like we had with Covid.” POLITICO’s David Cohen has more for Pros.

Au contraire: Democrats have been arguing that the bill’s diverse proposals are relevant to infrastructure. Measures focusing on combating climate change, such as carbon capture and electric vehicles, are reliant on major infrastructure projects to bring them up to scale necessary to make a sizable difference.
