Nearly 3 out of 4 U.S. voters support federal efforts to spur a transition to electric vehicles, according to a new poll. The survey from the American Lung Association found that 74% of voters would back a push by the federal government to set stronger standards for tailpipe emissions that would grow more strict over time. And 72% said the country should invest in zero-emissions vehicles to help bolster the economy. The poll of 1,000 registered voters, conducted May 18 to June 1, comes as EVs and charging stations have become a major sticking point in bipartisan infrastructure negotiations. President Biden has pledged to invest billions of dollars in EV technology as a way to combat climate change.
