What was meant to be a year that blew the wind energy industry well past its previous record for installations will more likely clear that mark by a more modest advance. Developers are set to boost capacity by 9% this year to 66,422 megawatts, according BloombergNEF. Trump May Let Drillers Stash Glut of Oil in Federal Storage

The U.S. Energy Department is considering renting space in the nation’s emergency oil reserve to domestic producers awash in crude, according to three people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified before a formal announcement. The move would help drillers running out of space to stash their product amid cheap prices and low demand. Trump administration slashes required annual fuel economy increase to 1.5%, potentially harming EV market, advocates say

The Trump Administration on Tuesday finalized its fuel efficiency standards in a move that electric vehicle advocates worry could harm the domestic EV market. The final rule, issued by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), weakens Obama-era fuel efficiency guidelines, requiring corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) and carbon emissions standards to increase 1.5% from 2021 to 2026, rather than 5% annually.  [ read more … ]

FERC extends PJM compliance comment deadline

FERC yesterday extended the deadline for comments on grid operator PJM’s capacity market compliance filing from April 22 to May 15. The compliance filing is PJM’s plan to enact FERC’s December decision to limit the participation of subsidized clean energy in its capacity market, and it earned high initial marks from renewable energy providers, [ read more … ]
