So at first, many happily embraced a plan for an offshore wind farm that would help lead the way as New York State sets some of the most ambitious green energy goals in the country. But then came word that the project’s transmission cable was going to land in Wainscott, one of the most exclusive slices of the already exclusive Hamptons, where homeowners include the likes of the cosmetics billionaire Ronald Lauder and Marci Klein, a former longtime producer of “Saturday Night Live” and the daughter of Calvin Klein. Senate to get its own bipartisan climate caucus

Republican Senator Mike Braun of Indiana and Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware are organizing the new caucus, the first bipartisan group on the Senate side dedicated to climate conversations. The caucus is still in the planning stages right now and will be formally unveiled in the coming weeks, according to the senators’ staffs. Climate change should be a “bridge issue,” Braun told Abby in an interview. He said many Democrats are also looking for a change in dynamic and Republican partners on climate policy.

Ford, GM rev up electric pickup trucks to head off Tesla

Large pickup trucks that tow most of the profits in to Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co are holdovers from another century – with heavy ladder frames and big internal combustion engines in the front driving the wheels in the back. Now, Ford and GM are racing to design radical new takes on their most profitable models, replacing petroleum-fueled engines with batteries in a bid to outflank Tesla Inc’s plan to eclipse their brands. Trump, House GOP agree on key to 2020 win: Green New Deal

“The Green New Deal, we just want that thing to go as long as it can,” Trump told Republicans at a dinner last night. “Anybody that can win office promoting the Green New Deal, they deserve to win [because] they have the greatest line of crap anybody has had in the history of politics.” Trump suggested Republicans withhold their attacks on the Green New Deal and leader sponsor Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) until closer to the elections so Democrats would not have time to reverse their positions. [ read more … ]
