Trump Talks Up ‘America’s Environmental Leadership’ in Climate Speech

On Monday afternoon, Mr. Trump delivered a speech billed as “America’s Environmental Leadership.” He was flanked by his two senior environmental officials — one a former lobbyist for the coal industry and the other a former oil lobbyist. But the idea for the speech did not start with the president. It started with consultants on his re-election campaign who have discovered that his environmental record is a definite turnoff for two key demographics — millennials and suburban women, according to two people familiar with the plans. State mandates driving demand for renewables

At least four states have boosted their goals for expanding renewable energy this year, joining several others that are directing power generators to produce more electricity from wind turbines, solar panels and other non-polluting sources. These mandates are increasingly driving the development of renewables nationwide, accounting for about half the growth in clean energy nationwide, according to the National Council of State Legislatures, a bipartisan group that represents state lawmakers. The latest states to adopt more aggressive goals for expanding clean energy are New Mexico, Washington, Nevada, and Maryland.

US mayors recognized for climate protection efforts focused on EVs, renewables

Los Angeles and Fayetteville, AR were recognized as winners of the 13th annual Mayors’ Climate Protection Awards, an initiative from the The U.S. Conference of Mayors in partnership with Walmart.  Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti accepted the award in the large city category for his city’s work on electric vehicles (EVs), especially the creation of the Climate Mayors Electric Vehicle Purchasing Collaborative in 2018. Ørsted Chosen for New Jersey Offshore Wind Project

The US Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has published the official notice for comment on Anbaric’s proposed New York and New Jersey OceanGrids, advancing the projects along in the federal approval process. Anbaric is the first to present a planned transmission system for both New York and New Jersey and to advance its application to use federal waters for underwater cables to connect New York and New Jersey offshore wind to shore. OceanGrids will connect the offshore wind energy sought by New York and New Jersey to on-shore grids via offshore collector platforms and cables buried underwater and underground.    [ read more … ]

BMW chief to quit after carmaker loses early lead in EVs
