California Says PG&E Power Lines Caused Fire That Killed 85

Electrical transmission lines belonging to Pacific Gas & Electric caused the Camp Fire of 2018, California’s deadliest wildfire, a state agency concluded on Wednesday. The fire, which started on Nov. 8, killed 85 people and destroyed nearly 19,000 homes, businesses and other buildings. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said on Wednesdaythat, after a “very meticulous and thorough investigation,” it had determined that Camp Fire was caused by “electrical transmission lines owned and operated” by PG&E. The company had said in February that it its equipment had probably caused the fire.

Inslee climate plan calls for investing $9 trillion in green jobs

Democratic presidential hopeful Jay Inslee is releasing a second major climate plan that calls for investing $9 trillion to jumpstart a green economy. The Washington governor’s plan, unveiled Thursday, aims to create 8 million jobs over 10 years with a public investment of $3 trillion while pushing to leverage $6 trillion in private investments.

Nebraska senators pass scaled-back bill aimed at wind energy

A new version the measure that was previously defeated won final approval Monday on a 44-0 vote. The bill would allow eminent domain for renewable energy projects, but gives opponents a better opportunity to challenge such projects in court. [ read more … ]
