New York Announces Plan Of Action For Procuring Offshore Wind

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, D-N.Y., has announced the New York State Public Service Commission’s plan for the state’s first procurement of offshore wind. New York has a goal of 2.4 GW of new offshore wind generation by 2030, enough to power 1.2 million New York households. This first phase of the state’s procurements includes obtaining approximately 800 MW of offshore wind by 2019. [ read more … ]

DC considering 100% renewable by 2032, but no carbon tax

District of Columbia City Councilwoman Mary Cheh has introduced a measure to require 100% of the city’s energy to come from renewable sources by 2032, while enacting new standards for buildings and increasing funding for energy efficiency. However, Cheh’s bill was actually a disappointment to some clean energy advocates in the city, who were in talks with the councilwoman to introduce a carbon tax that would have started at $10/ton.
