Republican Asks Colleagues to Keep Wind and Solar Tax Credits

A New York Republican emerged from a key tax meeting to say that he had urged his House colleagues not to end tax credits for the wind and solar industry early. “We’ve made the case,” Representative Tom Reed said in an interview following a meeting with Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, which is planning on unveiling a broad rewrite of the nation’s tax code on Wednesday. “I think it’s gaining some traction, but nothing is done until it’s done.” [ read more … ]

Trump admin might finance massive wind project

Whether North America’s largest wind power project gets off the ground may rest with President Trump, a man who has railed against wind turbines for killing birds and whose top energy priority is boosting the coal industry. At issue is whether Trump will tell a federal utility to avoid becoming financially involved in a 700-mile transmission line carrying power from a proposed wind farm in Wyoming with 1,000 turbines to Southern California. U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt said there is growing optimism within the businesses community as the Trump administration works to roll back Obama-era environmental regulations. “The actions that are being taken as part of President Trump’s leadership really is sending a message across the country that executive branch agencies are going to actually enforce the law and not make the law,” Pruitt said in a radio interview. Alaska governor sued for not tackling temperature rise

A group of young Alaskans sued state officials Friday for allegedly undermining their constitutional rights by promoting the use of fossil fuels and exposing them to the risks of climate change. The plaintiffs filed the case in response to the state Department of Environmental Conservation’s decision last month to deny their petition seeking reduced carbon emissions. [ read more … ]

St. Louis Votes Yes On 100% Renewable Energy

On Friday, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen unanimously approved the city’s commitment to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2035. According to the Sierra Club, St. Louis now represents the largest city in the Midwest to establish a 100% renewables goal and joins 46 other communities across the U.S. to make such a commitment. There Was So Much Wind Power In Germany This Weekend, Consumers Got Free Energy

A stormy weekend led to free electricity in Germany as wind generation reached a record, forcing power producers to pay customers the most since Christmas 2012 to use electricity. Power prices turned negative as wind output reached 39,409 megawatts on Saturday, equivalent to the output of about 40 nuclear reactors. [ read more … ]
