The Rockies’ largest glaciers are melting with little fanfare

A new world is emerging in the wake of the receding ice. In a vast, glacially carved basin, where towering spires of granite dominate the skyline, a small colony of stunted Engelmann spruce has taken up residence in a pile of rocky debris, some 500 feet above the tree line. Bees flit among the yellow mountain asters dotting the boulder field at the glacier’s base. Grass grows along a stream where there was, until recently, only snow and ice. [ read more … ]

Governor Carney wants Delaware back developing offshore wind

Governor John Carney has created a working group that will study potential offshore wind environmental and economic development benefits, and signaled that Delaware wants to regain its earlier leadership in the emerging sector along the US east coast. “We must look for ways to participate in the development of alternative energy sources,” he said, tasking the group via an executive order to provide him with recommendations on short- and long-term strategies for developing offshore wind to serve Delaware. Anheuser-Busch signs wind farm power deal as part of global renewable energy goal

Anheuser-Busch InBev has signed a deal to buy power produced by an Oklahoma wind farm as part its global goal to have 100 percent of its purchased electricity come from renewable sources by 2025. A-B, its U.S. subsidiary based in St. Louis, announced a power purchase agreement with Italian renewable energy company Enel Green Power for a portion of the energy produced at Enel’s Thunder Ranch wind farm located in Garfield, Kay and Noble counties in Oklahoma.

M&Ms’s New Ad Is Selling Renewable Energy And Wind Power

This week, just ahead of Climate Week, Mars’s M&Ms launched a new consumer campaign called “Fans of Wind” to spread the word and raise awareness around fighting climate change–and what the company itself is doing to fight it. M&Ms says it’s the first major food business to source all of its electricity for its U.S. operations from renewable sources, with wind farms in Mesquite Creek, Texas, and Moy, Scotland, that source enough wind power needed to make all of the M&M’s in the world. Top brass at Altus and Vance Air Force Base near Enid, where pilots are trained to fly smaller planes, are sounding the alarm with local officials and state lawmakers.
