With the U.S. reeling from two major hurricanes in as many weeks, the White House said today it’s taking climate change “seriously,” even if it is not considering its cause. Asked by reporters whether Hurricanes Harvey and Irma had given the White House pause about its positions on global warming, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert answered that “causality” of climate change was beyond his area of expertise. 5 AGs sue over Trump delaying higher fines for automakers
Five state attorneys general sued the Trump administration today for delaying higher penalties for automakers that don’t meet fuel economy targets. The lawsuit asks the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to throw out the decision by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to indefinitely delay an Obama-era rule tripling penalties for automakers. Second phase of North Dakota wind farm approved
The North Dakota Public Service Commission approved its final permit Wednesday, Sept. 6, for a wind farm northeast of Valley City. The three-member commission unanimously approved a siting permit for the second phase of the Glacier Ridge Wind Farm, Chairman Randy Christmann said. In total, the PSC authorized the construction of up to 87 turbines producing 300.15 megawatts on roughly 25,000 acres. The project is estimated to cost $375 million [ read more … ]
Draft environmental report for Lake Erie offshore wind project is promising
Environmental studies so far have found little potential impact from a proposed offshore wind farm in Lake Erie near Cleveland. A draft Department of Energy report shows mainly minor or negligible short-term impacts from a plan to construct and operate six wind turbines approximately eight miles offshore of Cleveland.
