Industry has delivered a clear message to the Trump administration during a series of recent closed-door meetings: Don’t completely gut the Obama-era Clean Power Plan. To be sure, leading industry associations are pushing White House and U.S. EPA officials to drastically roll back the landmark climate change rule. Deepwater Wind, Tesla plan largest offshore battery project

Deepwater Wind is proposing to build the world’s largest offshore wind farm tied to battery storage off the coast of Massachusetts. The 144-megawatt Revolution Wind project would be linked with a storage system from Tesla Inc. 12 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard. It would be the first pairing of offshore wind and energy storage in the U.S., with the project aiming to sequester large amounts of electricity produced at night for later use. [ read more … ]

U.S. Nuclear Comeback Stalls as Two Reactors Are Abandoned

In a major blow to the future of nuclear power in the United States, two South Carolina utilities said on Monday that they would abandon two unfinished nuclear reactors in the state, putting an end to a project that was once expected to showcase advanced nuclear technology but has since been plagued by delays and cost overruns. The two reactors, which have cost the utilities roughly $9 billion, remain less than 40 percent built. The cancellation means there are just two new nuclear units being built in the country — both in Georgia — while more than a dozen older nuclear plants are being retired in the face of low natural gas prices. Rocky Mountain Power’s renewable energy program ranked among top three in country

or the ninth consecutive year, the parent company of Rocky Mountain Power has been ranked among the top three renewable energy providers across two categories by the U.S. Department of Energy.

PacifiCorp, which owns both Rocky Mountain Power and Pacific Power, benefited from its voluntary Blue Sky renewable energy program by being dubbed the nation’s number two in number of customers buying renewable power and third in renewable energy sales overall. The program has been in operation for the better part of 20 years, and in that time has garnered more than 113,000 participants. [ read more … ]
