Trump Said to Issue Far-Reaching Reversal of Obama Climate Push

By Jennifer A Dlouhy, Bloomberg  •    •  Posted 2017-03-27 04:39:47

President Donald Trump is set to sign a sweeping executive order on Tuesday aimed at promoting domestic oil, coal and natural gas by reversing much of his predecessor’s efforts to address climate change. The document lays out a broad blueprint for the Trump administration to dismantle the architecture that former President Barack Obama built to combat the phenomenon, according to details shared with Bloomberg News. Some of the changes would happen immediately, while others would take years to complete. [ read more … ]

President Donald Trump will sign an order on Tuesday aimed at making it easier for companies to produce energy in the United States, administration officials said on Sunday. Under Trump, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is aiming to aggressively roll back Obama-era environmental regulations. Commentary: As Trump threatens historic climate protections, Midwest Republican governors embrace clean energy economy

By Dick Munson, Midwest Energy News  •    •  Posted 2017-03-27 04:41:23

Any day now, President Trump is expected to issue an executive order attacking key climate and air standards, including the Clean Power Plan — America’s first-ever nationwide standards to reduce carbon pollution from power plants. Climate change is about as amusing as death, but the gallows can inspire a kind of humor. Consider this, from late-night jokester Conan O’Brien: “Yesterday, a group of scientists warned that because of global warming, sea levels will rise so much that parts of New Jersey will be under water. The bad news? Parts of New Jersey won’t be under water.” [ read more … ]

Alexander urges TVA to avoid Clean Line wind generation

By Dave Flessner, Times Free Press  •    •  Posted 2017-03-25 06:23:37

In a speech on the Senate floor, U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander again urged the Tennessee Valley Authority not to contract with Clean Line Energy Partners to buy wind-generated power he says TVA doesn’t need and could boost electric rates. But Mario Hurtado, executive vice president of Clean Line Energy, said their project is a privately financed development of a major infrastructure program like President Trump promised to bring to America’s heartland. “Our country suffers from an infrastructure deficit,” Hurtado said. “Clean Line Energy is privately financing the development of an infrastructure project that will put thousands of Americans to work and lower electricity costs for businesses and households.” [ read more … ]

Rooftop Solar Facing U.S. Consolidation as `Weaker Hands’ Fold

By Brian Eckhouse, Bloomberg  •    •  Posted 2017-03-26 04:13:37

It’s not the best time to be a midsize U.S. rooftop solar company. Growth is slowing nationally, especially in California, the biggest solar market. Interest rates are creeping up. As larger rivals gain share and expand into new cities and states, some of the smaller ones are looking like possible takeover targets or closing down. [ read more … ]
