Carter: Renewable Energy Can Help Trump Create Jobs

Former President Jimmy Carter said Wednesday millions of jobs could be created in the United States if President Donald Trump embraced renewable energy sources such as geothermal, solar and wind power. Carter, a Democrat who was the first U.S. president to install solar panels at the White House, said he hoped the Republican Trump would give it “deep consideration.”

Big Utilities Try to Tilt Solar Energy Market in Their Favor

Indiana’s energy utilities want state lawmakers to pass a law that critics say would muscle out smaller companies from the emerging solar energymarket. Solar power provides only about 1 percent of the country’s energy, but the industry is growing rapidly, with figures showing it employed 208,859 workers in 2015. That amounts to a 125 percent increase since 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Wind Overtakes Coal Power in Europe as Turbines Head Offshore

Wind energy is set to maintain its competitiveness in the energy market, according to the chief executive of global wind energy company Vestas, which released its annual earnings report on Wednesday. “I’m extremely satisfied with the performance in 2016,” Anders Runevad told CNBC. “Wind continues to increase its competitiveness in the energy space, and we take good advantage of that,” he added. NRDC: States should lead low-carbon economy

It may be up to the governments of U.S. states to take the lead in the effort to advance a low-carbon economy, the Natural Resources Defense Council said. A review of federal data from the NRDC finds the U.S. renewable energy sector was one of the largest job creators in recent years. The estimated 350,000 people tied to the solar energy sector is greater than some parts of the conventional fossil fuels industry and wind energy was moving in a similar employment direction.
