Daniel Cusick, E&E News reporter  •    •  Posted 2016-11-21 04:50:39

Iowa is a wind power state. It is also a Donald Trump state, with nearly 52 percent of voters casting ballots for the Republican presidential candidate last week, compared with 42.2 percent for Hillary Clinton. As American as Apple Pie? The Rural Vote’s Disproportionate Slice of Power

By Emily Badger, New York Times  •    •  Posted 2016-11-21 04:51:02

Rural America, even as it laments its economic weakness, retains vastly disproportionate electoral strength. Rural voters were able to nudge Donald J. And while low oil prices have crimped the oil industry since 2014, it could be hard to boost production in the short term, analysts, state regulators and others said in interviews. [ read more … ]

Climate-threatened nations aim for 100 pct renewable energy

By Megan Rowling, Reuters  •    •  Posted 2016-11-21 04:52:12

A group of the countries most at risk from climate change said they would strive to make their energy production 100 percent renewable “as rapidly as possible”, as part of efforts to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), which numbers 48 nations, also committed to update their climate action plans submitted as part of the U.N. climate pact agreed in Paris last year and prepare low-carbon development strategies for mid-century, both before 2020.
