Colleagues,
Last week, Governor Branstad and Governor Raimondo sent a letter to Congressional leadership asking that they support a comprehensive, long-term national legislative policy that “enables deep water wind development and signals that the nation is serious about offshore development.” The letter suggests several ideas for Congress to consider, including a long-term investment tax credit, support for development of state port facilities, and streamlined offshore siting by various federal agencies. The idea for the letter emerged during discussions at our spring policy meeting in Washington. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be visiting with Senate and House staff on this issue. It’s our hope that the coalition can showcase the legislation at the Governors’ Offshore Wind Summit on October 24 in Providence, Rhode Island — in anticipation of its introduction when the new Congress convenes in January. The governors’ invitation to the summit is available here. Also, just a reminder that our next conference call is scheduled for Thursday, July 28. The agenda will include an update on tall tower wind technology and DOE’s work on national transmission development. Talk to you later this month.
