Governors' Wind Energy Coalition

April 25, 2016

Attached is the coalition’s letter to members of the Senate and House appropriation committees. The letter was broadly distributed last week.
The Senate will vote tomorrow morning on an amendment by Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley to add $95 million for wind energy. The proposal faces opposition from Energy and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Lamar Alexander, a longtime critic of federal support for wind. Please share the letter with contacts in your Senate congressional delegations.
The letter makes a strong case for wind and solar funding. Because of the dramatic differences between current wind and solar proposed funding levels, the coalition’s letter will be instrumental in working out the differences between House and Senate funding levels.
Appropriations is a long legislative process, and adjustments to funding levels will be made until the bills emerge from the conference committee and finally approved by the full House and Senate, which is weeks away.
Thanks for all your help with the letter.

BTW, please let Tracy ( know if you plan to attend next week’s coalition meeting on Friday, April 29 at the Bipartisan Policy Center in D.C.
