Maine governor: States must lead on climate after pullout

The United States has started the process of pulling out of the Paris climate agreement of 2015 (Climatewire, Nov. 5). Maine Democratic Gov. Janet Mills called it an “unparalleled abdication of U.S. leadership.”
Mills says her state will work with others on issues such as the creation of clean energy jobs and the protection of natural resources.
It’s not the first time Mills, elected in 2018, has said her state can lead on climate. She announced at the U.N. Climate Action Summit in September that her state would go carbon neutral by 2045.
