MidAmerican Energy Co.’s recent announcement of plans for a record investment in Iowa wind power made headlines here at home and around the world. Our vision of supplying enough renewable energy to meet 100 percent of our customers’ annual usage has been enthusiastically received by those who support a clean energy future for our state.

Iowa has emerged as a national leader in the development of renewable energy, thanks to the willingness of energy customers, communities, business and environmental coalitions and state policymakers and elected officials to work together toward this goal. The visionary leadership of Sen. Chuck Grassley at the federal level and Govs. Tom Vilsack and Terry Branstad at the state level have helped put Iowa on the path to generating more than 40 percent of its annual energy needs from wind by the end of this decade.

We appreciate the bipartisan efforts of these ardent supporters of wind energy and other voices in the executive and legislative branches, our congressional delegation, and within the industry itself, who will help us realize our vision of 100 percent renewable energy for Iowa.
