Google Inc. has invested $200 million in a wind farm in west Texas, marking its 11th major investment in renewable energy projects.

The Spinning Spur Wind Project has about 70 wind turbines that can power more than 60,000 homes.

“We look for projects like Spinning Spur because, in addition to creating more renewable energy and strengthening the local economy, they also make for smart investments: they offer attractive returns relative to the risks and allow us to invest in a broad range of assets,” a statement from Google read.

The wind farm was built by EDF Renewable Energy and uses Siemens AG wind turbines (Zain Shauk, Fuel Fix, Jan. 9).
