A proposed solar energy plant in the nation’s top coal-producing state yesterday gained a key approval from the Bureau of Land Management.
BLM officials determined that the Sweetwater LLC solar plant in western Wyoming wouldn’t cause significant environmental damage.
The state currently lacks a big commercial solar facility.
The Sweetwater plant would generate around 80 megawatts of electricity — enough to power roughly 17,000 homes.
Coal-fired power plants provide about 85 percent of electricity generated in Wyoming.
