ENERGY LEADERS LAY OUT INNOVATION PATH: A group of 11 industry leaders, including Bill Gates, ClearPath’s Jay Faison and Tom Fanning of Southern Company, is warning that Congress must expand support “to the entire energy innovation lifecycle” in order to develop the technology necessary to combat climate change. A new report from the American Energy Innovation Council makes 12 recommendations for Congress to achieve that necessary technology development and deployment, including increased funding for DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy to $1 billion per year and funding DOE’s Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program. The group also calls for additional mechanisms to support early-stage commercial projects, like the Clean Energy Deployment Administration that would provide financing for clean energy projects, and for Congress to consider energy tax provisions for early commercial deployment of new tech.
