Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) has reintroduced legislation to boost electric vehicle deployment that could become a piece of a larger infrastructure bill in the coming months. The “USA Electrify Forward Act” would create a grant program to overhaul manufacturing facilities to produce EVs and batteries. It would also require an update to building codes to encourage the installation of EV chargers in residential and commercial buildings. Dingell previously introduced the bill during the 116th Congress, and parts of it were included in the massive $1.5 trillion infrastructure package Democrats passed through the House last year. The legislation follows a flurry of other EV research and deployment bills introduced in recent weeks, as lawmakers anticipate a push for a major infrastructure package this year.
