Appearing at a POLITICO event on the future of renewable energy, FERC Commissioner Neil Chatterjee on Tuesday made clear he was a Republican Trump appointee, who previously worked for McConnell, but that he still believes in man-made climate change and the need to combat it. “I believe in climate change,” Chatterjee said “… [and] I am very concerned about the loss of our nuclear fleet.” He joked that he had only had two sips of his beer.

Full speed ahead: “I can tell you as a market regulator, I have not seen anything that is derailing the momentum of renewables – that transition is occurring. I was saying earlier the train has left the station and it is not stopping,” Chatterjee continued. He said that as the transition occurs at a rapid pace, it will be key to make sure grid reliability is not impacted. “That is the role FERC will play thus far, and I think we are doing a good job remaining vigilant, but that is not to say there won’t be challenges ahead.”
