Challenge to Trump-era Clean Car Standards Put on Hold by Court

A federal court has pressed pause on litigation over the Trump administration’s decision to scale back standards for fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit on Friday granted the Biden administration’s request to halt proceedings while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) review the regulation.
At issue is the second prong of the Trump-era Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule, which loosened federal efficiency standards. An Obama-era plan would have required cars to improve efficiency by 5% per year through 2026.
