Fishermen’s Energy has received the final permit needed to start building an offshore wind farm off the Atlantic City, N.J., coast.
The Cape May, N.J.-based company received the permit from the Army Corps of Engineers.
While the company has all the permits it needs to build the wind farm, it still needs to get permission from the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, which is still deciding whether to require utilities to purchase electricity from the project.
The company said its 25-megawatt project is expected to generate enough electricity to power 10,000 homes. The $200 million project will use five or six turbines 2.8 miles off the coast (AP/Wilmington [Del.] News Journal, July 19). — HP
