Apex Clean Energy has commissioned a 217MW wind and solar complex, which will cover more than half of the power needs of the US Army’s Fort Hood garrison in Killeen, Texas.

The complex comprises the 50.4MW Cotton Plains and 151.2MW Old Settler wind farms in Floyd County, as well as a 15.4MW Phantom Solar facility.

Cotton Plains and Phantom Solar have a power purchase agreement with the army.

Asset manager Northleaf Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in the three plants in July.

Apex has also acquired an up to 200MW wind project in Iowa from local developer Optimum Renewables.

The Great Pathfinder wind farm will be located in Boone and Hamilton counties and could start operating in 2020, the companies said.
